Our Custom Quilting Process

Creating a custom quilt out of quilt fabric is a rewarding process that blends creativity, precision, and personal expression. Each quilt is a unique collaboration between maker and client designed to reflect your style, story, or occasion.

Once we’ve discussed the design, pattern, and fabric selection, I’ll provide a detailed estimate based on size, complexity, and any special features you’d like to include. From there, we bring your vision to life one stitch at a time

The Process

Pick The Size
Choose a quilt design you like—squares, triangles, strips, or something fun.

Pick Your Primary Colors

Sashing + Binding Colors

Add Special Pieces
Select colors and prints that go well together.

  1. Cut the Pieces
Use a rotary cutter and ruler to cut fabric shapes based on your pattern.

  2. Sew the Blocks
Stitch the pieces together to make blocks, then join the blocks into rows.

  3. Add Borders (Optional)
Frame your quilt top with extra fabric strips if you want.

  4. Layer It Up
Make a quilt sandwich: top + batting + backing.

  5. Quilt It
Sew through all layers to hold them together—straight lines or decorative stitching.

  6. Bind the Edges
Finish the quilt by sewing fabric around the edges.

Here’s How It Works

  1. Select Shirts: Choose garments with meaningful graphics or logos.  These can be tshirt, sweatshirts, dri-fit, flannel or jerseys.

  2. Stabilize the Fabric: Apply lightweight fusible interfacing to prevent stretching.

  3. Design the Layout: Plan the arrangement of blocks, colors, and any borders or sashing.

  4. Cut to Size: We trim each shirt panel to a uniform block size based on your layout.

  5. Add Sashing, if desired: We’ll sew strips of fabric between blocks to frame each shirt and add structure.

  6. Sew the Quilt Top: We then stitch blocks and sashing together row by row.

  7. Quilt the Layers: We layer the quilt top with batting and backing, then quilt through all layers.

  8. Binding the Edges: We finish with binding around the perimeter for a clean, durable edge that will last you generations!
